Northline is test case management inside Jira Cloud, published by QANetwork Inc. Install it from the Atlassian Marketplace, then open Test Management on a Jira project.

Install

A Jira admin installs Northline on the site. The app talks to https://jira.testcase.pro.

Where it appears

  • Each project shows a Test Management page.
  • Each issue can show a Test Coverage & Executions panel.
  • The Jira apps menu includes Test Analytics & MCP Keys.

Creating cases

  1. Open the project and choose Test Management.
  2. Add folders if you want to group cases. You can nest folders and drag a folder onto another.
  3. Create a case with a title, preconditions, and at least one step. Each step has an action, test data, and an expected result.

Keys and versions

The case key looks like PA-T1. Keys sort in numeric order.

Optional: turn on the review workflow in settings. Edits then wait for approval instead of publishing immediately. Once a version has been executed, the next content edit is stored as a new version.

Shared steps

Shared steps live in a library. A case can call a shared step; the case view shows the library title and each inner step.

Cycles and runs

A cycle is a test run, optionally across configurations such as browser and region. Create a cycle, add cases (or a whole folder), and open an execution. Mark each step Pass, Fail, Blocked, or Skip. Only the current mark is filled. You can paste a screenshot onto a step and file a Jira bug from a failure.

Issue panel

On a Jira issue, Test Coverage & Executions lists the linked cases and the latest status. You can link or unlink a case there. Open the full app when you need the repository, cycles, or settings. Coverage is also written to the issue property tcmCoverage for JQL.

API and MCP

Jira admins create API keys on the Test Analytics & MCP Keys page. The raw key is shown once. Send it as Authorization: Bearer tcm_…. The REST API is under https://jira.testcase.pro/api/v1/. The MCP endpoint is https://jira.testcase.pro/mcp.

MCP client configuration
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "northline": {
      "url": "https://jira.testcase.pro/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer tcm_live_REPLACE_WITH_YOUR_KEY" }
    }
  }
}

Scopes

Authoring tools need the mcp:author scope. Execution and CI ingest need mcp:execute or ci:ingest. Inside Jira, Forge users are limited to the Jira projects they can browse, and writes require a Jira edit or project-admin permission.
